Claymation Animation Creation

WOW are the words I have to explain the results and process of this project. Mr. Kuebler's 6th grade class had the task of creating a claymation animation. Students needed to create characters out of clay and a set out of paper and anything they kind find in the art room. They then used an ipad to take animate a story. By moving the characters ever so slightly and taking a picture every time, it gives the appearance of movement.

The students did a phenomenal job working together, delegating tasks and compromising. Below are photos of students working. You can follow the link to watch their animations.

Everyday there was a lot of set up and tear down before filming could even begin.

Here are students with their characters they created from modeling clay

Here are students looking at the photos they take and the video clips they already have. They also had to make sure the ipad (camera) was in the same spot everyday for smooth filming.

Tessellation Portraits

Bucktown's 5th/6th grade class embarked on a complicated 2 part project. The first part of their project they created a unique tessellation. A tessellation is a shape that fits perfectly together with itself with no gaps or overlap and can repeat forever. We looked at the artwork of M.C. Escher as an example:
After completing the tessellation students created their self portraits. They were created by tracing an image of them that was projected on the white board. As a class we talked about color schemes and students choose a warm color scheme (reds, oranges and yellows) or a cool color scheme ( greens, blues and purples) for their portraits and tessellations.

They did an amazing job, enjoy!

Perspective Words

Mr. Kuebler's 5th/6th grade class learned how to draw letters in perspective, meaning that they look 3-D and appear to be going back in space. Students chose their name or a word that represents them and decorated their letters with a motif or theme. They look sweet!

6th Grade American Gothic Parodies

Ms. Loncar's 6th grade class discussed Grant Wood's painting, American Gothic.

Then we discussed the terms symbol and parody and students created their own parodies to American Gothic. Here are there results:

I just love the expression on these girls' faces!
