Kinder Castles

Ah yes, the castle. Appears very difficult to draw, especially for a kindergartner you may think! This however, was NOT a challenge for our Bucktown Kindergartners. We learned that we can break any image up into basic shapes and draw it. Even an image that looks as complicated as a castle. Enjoy their results!

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a SUPER FOOD

This quarter 5th graders embarked on quite a project. In class we learned about superheros and their characteristics and also discussed why it is important to eat healthy. I introduced students to super foods, foods that are particularly good for you, and each student got assigned a super food.
In media class, students researched facts about this food to know exactly why the food was so healthy. In art, the students drew the super food AS a super hero to show how healthy and super the food was. They then used their facts they researched and included those on the poster. These posters will be hanging in the cafeteria to remind the entire school to make healthy eating choices.

Some artists in the cafeteria where posters are displayed with Ms. Willie Mae, director of the cafeteria

Yes, dark chocolate IS a super food!

4th Grade Tessellations

This quarter 4th graders learned about tessellations, a shape that fits together perfectly, has no gaps or overlaps, and if given the chance can repeat forever. Students created their own unique tessellations using an index card. They then gave their tessellation a character and colored them in an ABA or ABC pattern. I am super impressed with their results!

This student created two characters, a blonde man and a blue jay

Here's a cool dude with sun glasses
This tessellation is a foot with some sweet shoes, and then the foot of a beast!

Winding Perspective Drawings

Mr. Toth's 7th grade class learned about perspective and how to transform 2-Dimensional shapes into 3-Dimensional forms. They created a motif or theme for their drawings and they look amazing!

Perspective Words

Mr. Kuebler's 5th/6th grade class learned how to draw letters in perspective, meaning that they look 3-D and appear to be going back in space. Students chose their name or a word that represents them and decorated their letters with a motif or theme. They look sweet!

Middle School Still Lives

2nd quarter middle school students learned all about value scales, which is the range of lights and darks in an image. Students had a still life in front of them as the drew and they added as many values as possible!
