Foreshortening Portraits

7th graders created self portraits---some unordinary self portraits. They used a skill called foreshortening-- the idea that somethings looks different based on the angle viewed. These portraits give the appearance of arms and legs out in front of students--like falling. Students liked the look of this new skill.

Radial Symmetry

3rd grade learned about Radial Symmetry-- symmetry that goes around a circle. They created at least 5 radial designs and put them together to create an awesome wheel. All wheels were put together on a bulletin board for a grand effect.

Tint, Shade, Hue

4th graders learned about tints, hues and shades. A hue is a pure color, a tint is a hue mixed with white and a shade is a hue mixed with black. 4th graders mixed all the colors themselves and had to balance how much black and white to mix to create a range of colors. The results are gorgeous

Still Lives

3rd graders learned about the art of the still life, which is group of objects arranged to create a drawing or painting. Students learned about the different styles of a still life-- some can look realistic and some can look abstract. We learned the word graphic which means objects are drawn realistically but colored like a comic book. I am so impressed with these 3rd grade still lives!
