8th grade textiles

8th graders learned about textiles-- the product of weaving. We learned some important weaving vocab (warp and weft) and the students were off weaving.

Ask any 8th grader what the secret to weaving is, and they will tell you it's

Students chose paper from magazines and they chose their own designs. They were responsible to make a series of textiles and tie them together with a recurring theme. They look amazing!

can we say FASHION!?

This quarter 5th graders learned about fashion- they created their own definitions for fashion, discussed fashion as art and learned about the artistic process one goes through when making clothes. Students had the task to design 3 outfits for one person based on personality. Some students had a motif, or a recurring theme throughout their designs. Some students designed for family members or themselves, and some students designed for celebrities like Derrick Rose or Lady GaGa.

This student's motif? Headbands

Love the shark leg warmers!

Decorative buttons are the motif here.

Color Mixing experiment

4th graders are learning about color mixing. They learned about the 3 primary colors, red, yellow, blue, and they knew that when mixed together, they made different colors. They began the experiment by making several hypotheses of what would happen when you mixed certain colors, red and blue for example. Then students worked together as tables to see what actually happens. They received kits with food coloring and water and cups, and it was their job to mix the primary colors and write the results. They had a blast and took control over their own learning to determine the secondary colors!

When students were done creating secondary colors, they got to experiment with the colors in any  way they pleased, often mixing ALL colors together!

Kindergarten Collages

In Kindergarten, everything is new, even how to hold a marker--or even knowing what a marker is. Since the beginning of the year students have been learning about materials and methods, supplies we use in art and how to use. They have been coloring in shapes using these different materials. They were then introduced to scissors where they cut out shapes and everything they could. They were then introduced to glue- liquid glue and a glue stick. They are learning so quickly and its so great to see their cutting and gluing abilities improve already! This is a culmination of basic materials (Crayons, colored pencils, markers, scissors and glue)

8th Grade Caricatures

8th graders learned all about caricatures and their different purposes. Students drew caricatures of themselves doing something they like with a creative setting. Check out their awesome results and see if you can guess who is who!
